Growing up we had an advent calendar that was shaped like Noah’s Ark. We would place a pair of animals in their specific location to signify the passing of each day in December. I looked forward to adding the animals every morning. It was my favorite advent calendar, and when I moved out of the house, my Mom gifted it to me one Christmas. My children now use that same calendar, and I love seeing it displayed in our home.
Advent calendars hold a special place in my heart. They beautifully mark time and build anticipation for Christmas. Waiting is a significant aspect of the Advent Season — eagerly longing for Christ's appearance — and any proper celebration of Christmas involves ways to honor and enjoy this anticipation.
This year, our school community is embracing the spirit of waiting for Christmas by using our podcast to share a weekly Advent Devotional. Each episode will feature scripture readings, some of my reflections, and original music from The Soil and the Seed Project Vol. 8. Our aim is to contemplate the truth, goodness, and beauty of Christ together as we celebrate his first advent and eagerly await his second.
You can listen to our podcast here or on your preferred podcast platform (search “After School with RCS”). I invite you to join us for this series; may it uplift and encourage you.
Merry Christmas!
