Since the fall of 2020, Redeemer Classical School has been adding one grade per year at the upper school level; their first graduates will be the Class of 2024. As the 9th-12th grade student body increases in number, Redeemer has decided that it would be wise to expand their staff. With that in mind, they have hired Mr. Aaron Cosner to serve as the Principal over the Logic and Rhetoric Schools — 7th through 12th grades. Mrs. Teresa Patton will continue as the principal for PreK through 6th grade.
Mr. Cosner’s educational background and experience demonstrate a passion for education and discipleship. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Bridgewater College in Philosophy and Religion and a Masters degree in Theology from Liberty University. In addition, he’s currently working on his M.A. degree in English. He joins Redeemer with almost 12 years of teaching and discipling experience as well as more than 10 years of coaching debate. He’s excited about the impact classical Christian education can have on students in this community he calls home. Mr. Cosner will join Redeemer in time to be ready for the 2022-23 school year. He states, “I’m very honored to be able to serve the students of Redeemer and their families.”
Redeemer Classical School purchased its campus, including the historic Keezletown School Building, in 2017, and has completed a multi-phase renovation project to house its growing student body. This year 196 students, grades PreK to 10th, are enrolled at the school. Redeemer is accredited by Christian Schools International, the Virginia Council on Private Education, and Cognia.
The classical approach to education emphasizes a deep and thorough understanding of history and organizes curriculum according to historic periods, which are integrated across academic disciplines. Classical education also emphasizes the literary classics and a study of Latin to further develop an understanding of language.
