Recently I gave a tour of our campus to a prospective family. As usual, I stopped at certain places along the way to talk about Redeemer’s mission, our philosophy of education, and why we do things the way that we do. At the end of the tour, one of the parents turned to me and said, “I appreciate how much thought you’ve given to each aspect of the school and how you have a reason and purpose behind everything you do.” I took that as a huge compliment — because we do spend a lot of time thinking about why we do what we do at Redeemer. Whether it’s adding a new initiative, adjusting the curriculum, or changing a program, we start with asking how this (fill in the blank) fits with our philosophy, theology, and values.
Now that doesn’t mean that we have it all figured out. Not at all! There’s always room for improvement. We realize the process of making sure that every facet of the school aligns with our mission and values, and is coherent with each other facet, is an ongoing one. We know it’s worth spending a great deal of time and energy to create this alignment, because it’s so crucial for a quality educational program.
We thought it would be helpful to share with you some of those reasons behind what we do. Thus, this new blog post series called “Why We…” Our goal is to give you a better understanding of classical Christian education in general, and a Redeemer education in particular. We’ll be posting a new article each week for the next couple months or so. We hope that you find these both informative and inspiring.
