This year's grammar school spring program showcased the fruit of our students' year-long learning. The art show in the lobby displayed many colorful, detailed grade-level artworks in diverse mediums. Students' individual creativity shone through in these projects.
During the performance students sang, danced, played instruments, and presented some of their music history studies from music classes. The Pre-K, first, and second grade students participated in responsive movement to show musical form and expression in pieces by J.S. Bach, Vivaldi and Brahms. The second and third grade classes sang partner songs in harmony and shared their own class arrangement of a folk dance with xylophone and recorder accompaniment. Fourth graders improvised jazz tunes along with a twelve-bar blues jazz standard, and the fifth graders shared a medley of traditional spirituals. The fourth and fifth grade handbells classes shared a Biblical chord story, as well as several pieces showcasing special ringing techniques they have learned throughout the year.
The performance ended with the entire grammar school together on stage to premiere a new arrangement by bells director and composer Kath Wissinger. Our students have grown in artistic teamwork and community this year, and we were very proud of them for their hard work highlighted at the spring program!
